I recently had the incredible opportunity to be a guest on Mary Lou Kayser’s [Tag] “Play Your Position” podcast, and I’m thrilled to share my experience with all of you! It was an inspiring conversation where we delved into the topic of leadership and the journey that led me to embrace this path.
Mary Lou opened the conversation with two thought-provoking questions:
- “When did you get the call to leadership?”
- “How old were you, and what were the circumstances of your life at the time you realized you were on a leadership path?”
Reflecting upon my childhood, I realized that the seeds of leadership were sown at an early age. Being the oldest among my siblings and cousins, I often found myself responsible for taking care of them while we played on the playground. It was during those moments that I discovered my passion for guiding others and helping them reach their full potential. I vividly remember pretending to be the teacher and eagerly teaching them new words I had learned. Little did I know then that these experiences would shape my understanding of leadership.
To me, a leader is someone who not only accomplishes their own goals but also uplifts and empowers others to achieve theirs. It’s about making a positive impact, inspiring growth, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. This belief has driven my leadership journey, guiding me to explore opportunities to contribute and make a difference.
During our conversation, I discussed two books that have been instrumental in guiding me on my leadership journey:
- “Wolfpack” for its empowering message about unity, resilience, and the importance of supporting one another.
- “Bob Berg’s Go-Giver” beautifully illustrates the power of giving and serving others.
I am immensely grateful to Mary Lou Kayser for the opportunity to share my thoughts on leadership and be a part of her insightful podcast, and I hope the conversation resonates with all those who listen.
